Suppression Systems Engineer

Suppression Systems Engineer / Permanent / London (UK-wide Travel Required) / Salary up to £45,000

Position 1 Recruitment looking for a Suppression Systems Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will attend customer sites across the UK to carry out planned maintenance, fault diagnostics, and repairs on fire suppression systems, with a focus on sprinklers and water mist systems. You will ensure all systems are fully operational, compliant, and safe, while maintaining the highest professional standards and delivering excellent customer service.

Working Hours
The role is Monday to Friday, with weekends optional. Once fully trained and proficient with system knowledge (typically after six months), you will join an on-call rota, covering one week at a time. Standard working days are 10 hours, with start and finish times varying, so flexibility is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance & Fault-Finding: Perform scheduled and reactive maintenance, diagnose system faults, and complete effective repairs in a safe and thorough manner.
  • Customer Service: Build and maintain professional relationships with customers, providing clear updates on system status.
  • Planning & Preparation: Ensure the service van is stocked with all necessary tools and service kits; coordinate with the office for additional supplies as required.
  • Compliance & Safety: Follow service instructions, risk assessments, and QHSE procedures; report incidents, near misses, or concerns promptly.
  • Documentation: Complete all job sheets, service reports, and compliance records accurately (via tablet/iPad or hard copy) and submit on time.
  • Call-Out Duties: Respond promptly during designated on-call periods and keep availability for emergency call-outs.
  • Vehicle & Equipment Care: Maintain the service vehicle in good condition, perform daily/weekly checks, and ensure all tools and PPE are safe and serviceable.
  • Training & Development: Complete all assigned training within set timeframes and maintain required CSCS and other competency cards.
  • Teamwork: Support colleagues and assist in familiarising new engineers with procedures; maintain clear communication with office and management.
  • Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as required to support company operations.

The successful Suppression Systems Engineer will have proven hands-on experience working with fire suppression systems, with a particular focus on sprinklers and mist systems. They will possess a solid understanding of fire protection industry standards and demonstrate awareness of QHSE regulations and compliance requirements. A valid CSCS card, or the ability to obtain one, along with any other necessary competency certifications, is required.

The role also requires a full UK driving licence, flexibility to work on-call and respond at short notice, and the ability to obtain any necessary security clearances. Candidates should hold a minimum Level 3 electrical qualification, with 17th or 18th Edition certification highly desirable.
